The Dirty Mind and Lonely Heart of John Mayer---The Dirty Mind And Lonely Heart Of John Mayer, John Mayer has never been afraid to speak his mind. In fact, there was a time a few years back when he was ready and willing to say almost anything and came off sounding like a real jerk.
But it seems the 34-year-old singer has now seen the error of his ways – and, he stops by The Ellen Show (set to air Tuesday) to explain why he decided to take a break for the last two years. “It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood.
It was a violent crash into being an adult,” Mayer says in a clip from the appearance. “For a couple of years it was just figuring it all out ,and I’m glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight.
Because I think back then I would of said, ‘Give me two weeks or let me get out and do Ellen and let me explain myself.’
It was like, ‘No, idiot. Go away and be 33 and 34 instead of 28 for the fourth year.” In 2010, Mayer did a highly controversial interview with Play boy, in which he used the N-word and made sexually inappropriate references about his famous exes Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson.
He also gave an equally revealing interview to Rolling Stone magazine – appropriately titled “The Dirty Mind and Lonely Heart of John Mayer” – where Mayer said he believes he has “masturbated [himself] out of serious problems.”
But the star insists his TMI days are behind him and is looking forward to focusing on getting his music career back on track. He’s just in time too as he has a new album, Born and Raised, coming out on May 22.
