8 Shot Dead In Chicago---8 Shot, 2 Dead, in 7.3 Hours Saturday Night, as Crime Continues to Drop : One person was killed and another critically wounded in a shootout outside a North Side nightclub early this morning, one of a group of overnight shootings in Chicago that left two people dead and six wounded. The shooting outside the Krush nightclub, 1675 N. Elston Ave., happened about 3:00 a.m., police said. It's not clear what prompted the shooting, though police are investigating whether it may have followed a dispute inside the club.

A 25-year-old man was sitting in the driver seat of a car with one or two other people when someone walked up and started shooting, authorities said. He was identified at [sic] Asif Memon of the 4800 block of North Winthrop Avenue, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.


Memon was pronounced dead at 3:28 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, he said. A second person was shot five times, authorities said, but it's not known if he was in the car or standing nearby. His age wasn't available but he's in critical condition at Illinois Masonic.

Another man in the car when the shooting started got out and chased the shooter toward the intersection of Elston Avenue and Wabansia Avenue, where the two exchanged gunfire, police said. Neither was hit in the gunfire, and they both fled the scene.

No one answered on the club's telephone number. Saturday night, a 17-year-old boy died after being shot about 8 p.m. on the 3400 block of Monticello Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood.Police responded to a shots fired call on Monticello and learned the boy had been dropped off at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, where he died, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

A dark-colored car left after leaving the boy at the hospital, police said. Additional circumstances surrounding that shooting weren't available.

The victim lived two blocks from the shooting. About 3:20 a.m. this morning, a man was shot on the 2200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood. His age and condition weren't immediately available, police said. He was shot in the thumb and taken to an unidentified area hospital.


One man, 27, was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood about 2 a.m. while he was standing on the street in the 1500 block of South Pulaski Road, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. It’s unclear what prompted the shooting. About 10 minutes before that, a 24-year-old man was sitting on steps on the 5200 block of West Quincy Street in the South Austin neighborhood when someone inside a light-colored passing sedan opened fire, police said.

The man was shot in the neck and taken to Mount Sinai hospital in serious condition. Two others were shot about 10 p.m.

Saturday night on the 1400 block of East 67th Street, on the south end of the Woodlawn neighborhood. Police said someone wearing a ski mask was waiting outside a store and opened fire when the two emerged from inside.

A 21-year-old man, shot in the right side and right leg, is in serious condition, and a second man, 33, was shot in both thighs and is in stable condition. Both are at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
