Alex Rodriguez Surgery- Mark Hale and Joel Sherman of the New York Post report that Alex Rodriguez is "strongly leaning" toward having surgery to repair a slightly torn meniscus in his right knee.
The Yankees have left the decision up to Rodriguez after the diagnosis was revealed Saturday. The team has recommended that he have the operation after meeting with doctors, but Rodriguez was headed to Miami Sunday to receive a second opinion from Dr. Lee Kaplan, the Post reports.
An operation would sideline the three-time AL MVP for at least a month.
"I want to talk to (team physician Christopher) Ahmad," Rodriguez said. "And then I'm going to see Dr. K down in Miami and then we'll call Ahmad and make a decision collectively."
Rodriguez could also decide to play through the injury and get the knee repaired in the offseason. Since the injury occurred at Wrigley Field last month, Rodriguez has gone homerless in 68 at-bats. His last home run came on June 11.
Rodriguez opted to sit out during the upcoming All-Star break despite being voted in as a starter for the American League. An official decision is likely to come by Tuesday's game in Phoenix.
"It's hard to get into (potentially missing) 20-30-40 games when we don't know," Rodriguez said. "But the one thing is, you definitely don't want to limp into the finish line. Obviously for us the most important games are played at the end."
