Mike Brown Fired, Cavs coach Mike Brown is about to be fired, according to Sports Illustrated. Mike Brown will be fired if we believe two league sources that have talked to SI.com today. Mike Brown helped lead theCleveland Cavaliers to the best record in the NBA this season, but a second round playoff loss against the Boston Celtics has apparently soured management on having Brown at the helm.
This was supposed to be the year that LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA championship, but instead they lost two crucial playoff games on their home court and were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs on Thursday night. Brown just didn't live up to the expectations that the team set for him.
LeBron James is now the two-time Most Valuable Player of the NBA, and considered by most to be the best player in basketball right now. We didn't see the typical LeBron James on the court during the Boston Celtics series though, and there have been quite a few theories about what went wrong. There were thoughts that his elbow injury was more severe than what was revealed, that he was just 'out-of-it', and even that he didn't have the mental toughness to help carry the Cavs by himself. In a Game 6 where it seemed LeBron James was the only one trying to execute against the Celtics, it seems that Mike Brown is about to take the brunt of the blame.
During his tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Mike Brown compiled a coaching record of 272-138 in his five seasons. He helped lead the Cavs to the 2007 NBA Finals, and even won the NBA Coach of the Year Award last season. Now though, it appears as though Mike Brown could be looking for a new job soon, and that the Cavs will be heading in a new direction. Is this a ploy to get a coach into Cleveland that would be more to the liking of LeBron James? Is Brown taking the blame for a roster that just couldn't cut it in the playoffs? Or are the Cavs just preparing for life after LeBron James, and this is the first step? Mike Brown hasn't been fired just yet, so we will still have to see if SI.com gets this one right.
