Why Does The Internet Love Cats---Cats populate just about every corner of the Internet--from forums to blogs to social networks: Maybe for the same reason I do. I can’t get enough of the little sh*ts. I have spent more hours than I’m proud of browsing endless pictures of cats on icanhascheezburger.com. I kid you not, I actually cried when I first saw this comic http://pandyland.net/57/ . How lame am I, right?
What reassures me is that I don’t seem to be alone in my cat madness. The online community laps up those feline videos, pictures, songs (…) like a cat with a bowl of milk.

Ok, not bad. The second link is a video called ‘Funny cats in water, EPIC’ .
It has 23,705,591 views. That’s more than the population of Australia. The music is brash (and quite frankly terrible) and has absolutely nothing to do with the compilation, except for the fact that in between the chorus bap bap bapping it kind of sounds like there’s a cat going ‘miaow’ in there.
The uploader has kindly put in a link to the song . As I watch it, even as I note the crude format I can’t help but chuckle to myself and think ‘teehee, sillycat you’re being so silly and cute’. It entertains me. I love it.
I’m even tempted to join the 56,474 users who have ‘liked’ this video and press the thumbs up button, affirming to the whole world that this cat video is the best ever. Some have even ventured so far as to voice their own opinion on the video in the comments.’
Excellent video, love the cat swimming.’ says myspaceCivitas. As if this compilation of four legged animals being thrown into/falling into/drinking/sleeping in/playing in water accompanied by bland pop music was something serious.
But it is serious. The whole of Australia can tell you so. And I’m not unsubscribing from r/cats any time soon.
I was prompted into thinking about cats and internet when I heard that the first film festival dedicated to cat videos had taken place in the USA.
