Giant Eyeball Mystery---A mystery has been solved: the softball-sized eyeball that washed up on Pompano Beach, Florida, belongs to a swordfish. "Experts on site and remotely have viewed and analyzed the eye, and based on its color, size and structure, along with the presence of bone around it, we believe the eye came from a swordfish, said Joan Herrera, a representative of the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in a statement today.

And why exactly is it washing up on shore? "Based on straight-line cuts visible around the eye, we believe it was removed by a fisherman and discarded."

Herrera added. Learning the answer is a really big fish which you can purchase in delicious steak form obviously isn't as thrilling as the eye belonging to an elusive giant squid.

Nor is it in the same universe of awesomeness as the theory of it being an eye of cthulhu.
