Soyuz 33 Backup Engine Worked and Helped Them Return to Earth---Cosmonaut Georgi Ivanov, Nikolai Rukavishnikov, Salyut 6 space station: Soyuz 33 was a 1979 Soviet manned space flight to the Salyut 6 space station. It was the ninth mission to the orbiting facility, but an engine failure forced the mission to be aborted, and the crew had to return to earth before docking with the station. It was the first-ever failure of a Soyuz engine during orbital operations.

The two-man crew, commander Nikolai Rukavishnikov and Bulgarian cosmonaut Georgi Ivanov, suffered a steep ballistic re-entry, but were safely recovered. The original intention of the mission had been to visit the orbiting crew for about a week and leave a fresh vehicle for the station crew to return to earth in. The mission failure meant that the orbiting Salyut 6 crew lacked a reliable return vehicle as their Soyuz had the same suspect engine as Soyuz 33. A subsequent manned flight was canceled and a vacant craft with a redesigned engine was sent for the crew to use.

George W. Bush Denied Cocaine Charges, J. H. Hatfield, Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President---Texas author J.H. Hatfield claims the Republican front-runner did community service at a Houston center. A new book by Texas author J.H. Hatfield claims that George W. Bush was arrested for cocaine possession in 1972, but had his record expunged with help from his family’s political connections. In an afterword to his book “Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President” (St. Martin’s), Hatfield says he took a second look at the Bush cocaine allegations after a story in Salon reporting allegations that Bush did community service for the crime at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Houston’s Third Ward.

The center’s executive director, Madgelean Bush (no relation to George W. Bush), had told Salon News and others that Bush did not do community service there, and the Bush campaign likewise denied the allegation. But the Texas governor had admitted to working at Houston’s Project P.U.L.L. in 1972, and Hatfield says he began to wonder if that was actually the community service sentence. Hatfield says he confirmed those suspicions with three sources close to the Bush family he had cultivated while writing his biography, which publishes Wednesday.

The singer has always made her love for New York known, especially in song, and now she's reaching out when her city needs her most. Following the destruction that Hurricane Sandy left in her beloved hometown, Lady Gaga decided to take action. On Wednesday (November 7), Gaga donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts in New York City.

"If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today," Gaga said in a statement posted on her website. "New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is natural pursuit of diversity through compassion."

She continued, "Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali: with our deepest gratitude New York is raising for us. Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours. Sincerely, Lady Gaga and The Germanottas."

Earlier this week, Lady Gaga tweeted out a previously unreleased track, "No Floods," as a way to honor her hometown while she is overseas on the Born This Way Ball Tour. "No matter lightning or thunder/ Buckets of rainwater/ You can't flood this town/ In a world unknown/ You've gotta hold your own/ And you can't stop me/ You're never ever, ever gonna stop me now," she sings on the track.

Like Lady Gaga, so many others have donated in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and that outpouring of support to those affected by the storm is not slowing down anytime soon.

On Thursday, November 15, the cast of "Jersey Shore" is teaming up with the nonprofit organization Architecture for Humanity for "Restore the Shore," a live benefit that will ask viewers to contribute to the rebuilding and restoration of Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
