Doug Martin running back, Doug Martin nickname Muscle Hamster, Doug Martin dislikes muscle hamster---Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie sensation Doug Martin has the worst nickname ever: Muscle Hamster. But don't take our word for it.
"It has to be the worst nickname ever," Martin told NFL AM on Tuesay. "I can't shake it. It started in college, started back in Boise, with our linemen. I have a lot of bigger friends, and they'd call me the Muscle Hamster because of how much I could lift in the weight room."
It's really bad. I can't put my finger on why; it simply sounds unappealing, like shepherd's pie or the name Blanche. (RIP, Rue McClanahan.)
Some will say "at least Martin is good enough to warrant a nickname," which is preposterous. Anyone can have a nickname. Going by the Boise method, take a body part and an animal and voila! You're "Ligament Alligator." See?
Martin is good enough to warrant a litany of nicknames, mind you. He set a Bucs record with 251 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders and would be a shoo-in for Rookie of the Year if not for Andrew Luck and RGIII. The 31st pick of the 2012 draft is already over 1,000 yards from scrimmage this season and is third in the NFL in rushing yards.
