Beyonce lip sync + no time to rehearse with band, Beyoncé has won 17 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé 2013 inauguration, Beyoncé 5th album out April 2013, Beyonce Lip Sync No Time to Rehearse With Band, Well, that settles it (maybe, possibly, probably not): According to CNN, an unnamed inaugural official has confirmed that Beyoncé lip-synched while performing the “Star-Spangled Banner” on Monday.
“Because she didn’t have time to rehearse with the Marine Band, she decided to use her recording with the Marine Band,” the official said, noting that the singer didn’t arrive in Washington D.C. until late Sunday night......popwatch.ew.
The official doesn’t know why Beyoncé elected not to sing live — by all accounts, “she was spot on” in her pre-recording session, and “she’s actually a very good live singer.” There’s apparently no word on why Bey ripped out her earpiece mid-song, either.
For the record, Beyoncé herself still hasn’t released a statement about the performance — though stars from Jennifer Lopez to Aretha Franklin have defended the common practice of using a pre-recorded track at a live event.Lopez noted on The Daily Show Tuesday that “certain stadiums and certain venues” make lip-synching necessary.
The Queen of Soul, meanwhile told ABC News Tuesday that she “really laughed” when she heard about how much controversy had been drummed up over Beyoncé’s anthem.
Lip-synching, she continued, is “optional, really — it’s up to the artist. In 2009, I wanted everything to be live and on the real side for the moment as it actually happened. Those were my feelings for my performance, but having come face to face with 28, 22 degree [weather], I am not surprised she pre-recorded.”
And then there’s Steven Tyler, who thinks that Bey’s bootyliciousness gives her the right to do whatever she wants. “Beyoncé’s so hot she can do anything. Let’s just get real, all right? That’s how hot she is,” he told TMZ yesterday. Why does that comment make us feel ickier than the whole lip-synching scandal in the first place?
